SUMMARY:Build Program - Cohort I: June 3rd - June 7th and June 24th - June
 28th
DESCRIPTION:The Professional Community Intervention Training Institute was
created in early 2005 specifically as a community/gang/crisis intervention
institute that is a division of the much broader violence intercession-cr
isis abatement firm under Maximum Force Enterprises. Our firm has been in
operation for over 35 years and has trained a multitude of diverse individ
uals and groups both nationally &amp\; internationally.\n\nP.C.I.T.I.’s
preparatory training was developed to provide effective skill sets\, direc
t protocol creation\, standards of field operation\, and critical thinking
along with standard operating procedures-guidelines and replicable templa
tes. This new\, unique model of community-based intervention transforms th
e role of the “gang interventionist” to one of a “Professional Commu
nity Intervention First Responder.”\n\nThe BUILD Program\n\nA set of cor
e competencies will be delivered to intervention workers through a combina
tion of in-classroom didactic instruction sessions\, role playing/behavior
and scenario driven modeling exercises performed at the PCITI training ce
nter and selected locations in the community.\n\nSessions will be offered
multiple times throughout the year. Each session will cover all the below
topics\, summing up to a total estimated instructional time of approximate
ly 80 hours per cohort.\n\nEach cohort will cover all of the areas of stud
 y below:\n\nDirect Rehearsal/Operational Protocols\nThe “blueprint” or
“instruction sheet” for interventionist work. This core or foundation
of community/crisis intervention work establishes the operational protoco
ls /standard operating procedures within which the interventionists will o
 perate.\n\nPersonal Development/Standards of Behavior\nThe development of
effective verbal\, written and physical presentation skills\, the ability
to teach others through applied case vignettes\, and the ability to provid
e feedback/consultation regarding a client or system issue to multiple aud
iences.\n\nTangible Tasks\nThe successful operation and administration of
violence intervention activities in community-based settings. Students wil
l demonstrate knowledge of governmental reporting requirements\, the use o
f technology to assist with administrative tasks including reporting requi
 rements\, and business operation practices.\n\nApplied Hypothesis\nThe eff
ective use of psychological theories\, evidence- based methodologies\, and
violence prevention/de-escalation/mitigation best practices. Students wil
l demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the dimensions of the human experien
ce\, psychological interventions\, mental health perceptions across cultur
es and belief systems\, and developing best practices from intervention li
terature\n\nDiverse Policy Concerns\nThe understanding of the history\, fo
rmation\, and implementation of public policy as it relates to violence an
d intervention practice. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the crimin
al justice system including law enforcement and corrections\, the public a
nd private grant identification / management process\, and the political l
andscape. Students will also demonstrate the development of conflict resol
ution skills needed to navigate through political systems that impact need
ed community gang interventions.\n\nStreet Apprenticeship /Scenario Engage
ment\nThe development of specific operational skill sets\, competence of a
pplication and the absorbed capability to carry out pre-determined results
often with the minimum disbursement of time and energy. Under this profic
iency\, the street apprenticeship is implemented - field training for both
new and seasoned practitioners where a structured competency or group of
basic set of skills are actually practiced in real life mock scenario enga
 gements.
